Social media marketing for your construction company isn’t nearly as difficult as it may seem when you’re just getting started. Yes, you have to go through the process of creating accounts, and it takes some time. But rest assured – it is well worth it when you really start using social media as it is intended to be used. For business that is.
Buffer or Hootsuite
I mention these two together because you don’t need both. Choose one or the other based on your personal preference. You can use the free version or the paid version; again it’s entirely up to you. Some people prefer Hootsuite because it includes access to more social media accounts. Buffer offers similar pros and cons and has a simpler learning curve in my opinion.
Tweriod is an app that shows you peak times for the people who see your Twitter posts. This type of information shows you when your followers are the most active and the best time for you to share new things. You can schedule your posts for when they will receive the highest number of real-time views by syncing Tweriod with Buffer.
LikeAnalyzer shows detailed feedback from your Facebook page. This free social media marketing tool is easy to use and provides recommendations to improve your Facebook page. LikeAnalyzer will give you a brief overview of your post distribution, timing, and the average length of each status update you post. You will also receive suggestions to help improve the way you interact with people who comment, like, or share your posts.
Yes, I’m calling your blog a social media marketing tool. Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are great for sharing tidbits of information, but your blog is where the real meat and potatoes are. That’s where you can really dig into the details of your work or ideas you may have and share those ideas with people. Allow readers to comment on your blog and always take the time to communicate with people online whether they comment on the blog or any other social platform.
You’re a builder, not a writer. I get that. That’s why a lot of construction company owners need to hire a writer for their blogs. I provide that service as part of my construction marketing services, but the Hemingway app is great for those of you who would rather try your hand at writing blog posts. It’s an editorial app that shows you certain things that will improve your post before you push that publish button.
Now that I’ve shared some free social media marketing apps, let’s talk about why social media is so important to your construction company marketing plan.
Build an Online Community
The more questions you answer and the more information you share, the bigger your online community will become. You can easily use Tweriod to determine when your followers are the most active, Buffer to schedule your normal posts, LikeAnalyzer to analyze the effectiveness of the campaign, your blog to attract a dedicated reader base, and Hemingway to edit your posts so that they are easier to read. (All for free or cheap.)
I know… that made it sound difficult, but honestly, you’ll get the hang of it. It only takes a few minutes a few days a week to keep on top of your campaign using these tools.
Don’t Miss Potential Customers
These tools will allow you to see what’s going on in social media whether you’re at home on your computer or out on the move with your smartphone or tablet. Always take the opportunity to reply to comments whether they’re positive or negative. I’m going to write a post soon about combating negative social media comments, but for now, just remember to reply to everything whether it’s good or bad. And be nice. Not many people want to work with an asshole, but if you use the correct tone you can still get your point across.
You’re a builder, you’re no stranger to analyzing the various aspects involved in the design and build process. You need to carry those same skills into your social media marketing strategy for your construction company. You need to see what each status update does whether you’ve shared your opinion on something or your latest blog post. LikeAnalyzer will show you what people like, how they’ve responded to it, and where you can improve your marketing strategy.
Still Not Sure?
Here are more ways you can build out a construction marketing plan that you could put to good use. It has a mix of online and off, and it will get you setup for 2017 and finish out 2016 with some solid ideas.
